第一场学术讲座
主 题:Trends in American Theatre and Dramatic Literature
Most people acquaint American theatre with either the great American musicals produced and seen on Broadway in New York City (Chicago,Thoroughly Modern Millie, A Chorus Line) or they think of the famous playwrights Arthur Miller, Tennessee Williams, and Eugene O’Neill. American theatre is more than musicals or a handful of well-known playwrights. This lecture introduces students to some noteworthy trends in play production in the United States today, as well as the innovations of living playwrights.

第二次讲座:
主 题:Understanding Performance through Cognitive Science
In the past ten years research in the humanities has greatly benefited from insights gleaned from the scientific disciplines that make up cognitive studies. Cognitive studies engages in research on the human brain and investigates the ramifications of the research on our understanding of human thought and behavior. Artistic expression and performance are two behaviors of interest to the research community. This lecture provides an introduction to some of the more prominent ideas generated in cognitive science pertinent to research in the humanities generally, and art and performance specifically, such as the discovery of mirror neurons in the 1990s, theories of metaphor and image schemas for the comprehension of language, and the evolution of art and storytelling.
